Sitting in your living room, after a long day at work, isn’t it easy to grab the remote, “turn off” your brain, and let hours slip away, before you get up, go to bed, and go to work the next day? After all, you work hard, so you deserve a little downtime, right? You can do this – every single day if you want. It’s your choice. But if you don’t make changes, even a little at a time, your life will never be different.
Will your life be the same in 5 years? Will you live in the same house, have the same friends, and go to the same job? Do you want your life to be different? It all starts with a desire. A desire to have more time, a nicer house, time to travel, volunteer or relax, desire for a thriving business, a desire to quit your 9-5 job, a desire for more. The “more” is whatever will make you happy. It’s not always about money – and don’t forget that when helping others.
If you want to make a change, odds are you need an accountability partner, or better yet, a team. A team of people like-minded and want similar things out of life. It’s hard to do anything alone – because you get excited, make the changes for a couple days, then fall back into your old patterns. The couch starts to call you. You turn on the TV “just for a minute” to check the news…and wake up at 2am and go to bed. You are tired after a long day. It’s raining outside – certainly nobody expects you to drive in the rain, right??
Excuses, Excuses, Excuses. Leaders don’t make them. We are leaders because we are willing to keep going, no matter how hard, how exhausting, how frustrating, or how long it takes. We build teams of people who want more, and we meet at every chance we get. 1-2 times per week is ideal. Sometimes, you need the meeting, sometimes the meeting needs you. When you get around people constantly, and you share successes with each other, something strange starts to happen: MOTIVATION.
After a while, you don’t just think “this is going to work”, you believe it. You’ve seen it happen for so many people, you believe it’s only a matter of time for you. When you truly believe (not the same as positive thinking), the things you believe in will start to manifest. If you believe you will have more time freedom, you will. If you believe your business will grow, it will (economy or NOT). If you believe you will lose weight, you will.
Two great books, that have helped me immensely with belief are Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life, by Brian Tracy and The Answer, by John Assaraf and Murray Smith. Read them, then read them again.
Events, meetings, reading, conference calls and webinars are all a great way to get around others who believe. The more you are around it, the quicker you will change! Good luck!
