This is where every great success starts: with a belief that it’s possible. I am not talking about positive thinking, wishing, dreaming or giving it your best shot. I am talking about true belief – in yourself, your abilities, your business.
I see belief, or lack of, as the #1 obstacle that stands in the way of a person and success. It’s not just about a lack of confidence, or low self esteem. It’s a deep rooted belief that we get from growing up in a society that tells us “go to work for someone else”, or “go to college and get a good job” or “don’t get into business for yourself, it’s too risky”. Sound familiar? It happens all of our lives, without us ever realizing what’s going on. We are bombarded with negativity from the time we are born. The average child hears “no you can’t” over “yes you can” 5,000 to 1. It’s no wonder why most people don’t grow up with a strong belief in themselves.
How many times did your parents tell you to start your own business? Invent something?? Buy a franchise? Dream big at any cost? Follow your passions? I bet it was not very often. It’s not the common belief of our society.
What about Network Marketing? Before you looked into it, or if you’re new, how many times have you heard one of these:
Network Marketing is a scam. It doesn’t work. Only the people at the top make money. It’s a cult. You will be brainwashed. It’s a waste of time. It’s a pyramid….blah, blah, blah.
We’ve heard them all. Only people who have never built a successful business say these things. To me, a person that has made more than $600,000 in the past 3 years of Direct Selling, there is no better industry in the world. It’s all perception. It’s all belief.
So let me ask you this very important question: Who’s belief will you listen to? Someone who is successful, or someone who isn’t? Someone who has been in business for themselves, or someone who hasn’t? You become the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. This doesn’t mean you have to dump your friends, just get around like minded individuals as much as possible.
I believe there is innate greatness in everyone. We just need to learn to get out of our own way. Reading, learning, falling down and getting up, listening and doing will help. It doesn’t happen over night.
My tip: Find something you are really great at. Something that gives you confidence. Do that one thing over and over to raise your belief in yourself. Then let that belief spill into the other parts of your life: relationships, business, work, etc. You have it in you, just find it.
Just remember: if you can conceive it, and believe it, you can achieve it.
To your success! Tara Wilson
